In U.S. stocks, U.S. shares opened strongly Tuesday and held their gains despite new evidence of a weakening economy. The Dow Industrials gained 121.09 to 10522.81, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 9.28 to 2027.12. The S&P 500 rose 6.71 to 1,211.23. Dealers said gains were posted evenly throughout the market, an indication of wide interest and raising hopes that a new rally, in anticipation of the economy recovery, may be under way. Yet suspicions remained as volumes were weak as was economic data.
